You can still enjoy Florence in the winter months! And when visiting <a href=\"https:\/\/devourtours.com\/blog\/florence-summer\/\">Florence in summer<\/a>, that doesn&rsquo;t change.<\/p><p>This means that winter weather in Florence is cold, but can seem freezing. Photo credit: Jackie Jabson<\/figcaption><\/figure><h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Im_not_dreaming_of_a_white_Christmas\"><\/span>I&rsquo;m <em>not<\/em> dreaming of a white Christmas<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2><p>You may be dreaming of Brunelleschi&rsquo;s beautiful dome covered in a blanket of snow, or watching the Arno River freeze while sipping some hot chocolate&hellip;<\/p><p>Stop right there!<\/p><p>High humidity and not-so-freezing temperature mean one thing: no snow. Sadly, it doesn&rsquo;t snow much in Florence in winter. All you can hope for is some dazzling snowflakes melting as soon as they reach the ground.<\/p><p>Instead, bring your umbrella with you. It&rsquo;s more likely that Florence will have rainy days in the winter. Photo credit: Cassandra Gambill<\/figcaption><\/figure><h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Enjoying_cold-weather_dishes\"><\/span>Enjoying cold-weather dishes<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2><p>Winter is the only time you can find a really good <em>ribollita, a<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/devourtours.com\/blog\/typical-tuscan-dishes\/\">typical Tuscan dish<\/a> that will warm your heart. The key ingredient is kale, which is only in season during the winter&mdash;spring and summer visitors are out of luck!<\/p><p>And, there&rsquo;s the best kept secret beverage in all of Florence: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.etra-comunicazione.it\/tuscany\/ponce-alla-livornese-the-leghorn-ponce\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>ponce alla livornese<\/em><\/a>. It&rsquo;s a kind of punch, made with rum, coffee, and sugar. It comes straight from the Tuscan city of Livorno and is the fastest way to warm up.<\/p><p>You can only find sweet <em>Schiacciata Fiorentina<\/em> during Carnival. But keep in mind that it&rsquo;s different from <em>Schiacciata<\/em>, some of the best pizza in Florence! <em>Schiacciata Fiorentina<\/em> is a soft cake that smells like oranges and is topped with icing sugar&mdash;the perfect way to warm your heart.<\/p><h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Christmas_festivities\"><\/span>Christmas festivities<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2><p>Even if not white, Christmas is still a big deal in Italy. In December, you&rsquo;ll find a magnificent Christmas tree near the Duomo and a winter market in Piazza Santa Croce.<\/p><p>Christmas lights spark all around the city, even outside the city center. And the city is so full of events! Winters are usually mild, with temperatures around 3&ndash;10&deg;C (37&ndash;50&deg;F). When it does snow, it&rsquo;s light and melts quickly, adding a brief charm to the city.<\/p><h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_to_pack_for_a_winter_visit_to_Florence\"><\/span>What to pack for a winter visit to Florence<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2><p>Even though Florence experiences a relatively mild winter, it can still be cold and wet. Here&rsquo;s a packing list to help you prepare:<\/p><h3><strong>Clothing<\/strong><\/h3><ul>\n<li><strong>Warm layers<\/strong>: Bring sweaters, long-sleeved shirts, thermal undergarments, and a medium-weight jacket or coat.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Waterproof jacket<\/strong>: Prepare for potential rain by bringing a waterproof or water-resistant jacket.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Scarves, gloves, and hat<\/strong>: These are essential to keep warm, especially during chilly evenings and mornings.<\/li>\n<\/ul><h3><strong>Footwear<\/strong><\/h3><ul>\n<li><strong>Comfortable walking shoes<\/strong>: Pack comfortable, waterproof shoes suitable for walking around the city and potentially wet or snowy streets. They could be leather boots, for example, which are also quite stylish. No matter what kind of shoes you bring, make sure that they&rsquo;re broken in before you arrive; otherwise, you may not have a great experience walking around the city!<\/li>\n<li><strong>Warm socks<\/strong>: Apart from comfortable shoes, warm socks are a must. They will keep your feet cozy while walking around the city, but make sure to throw in a few extra fluffly pairs to wear when you are back in your accommodation.<\/li>\n<\/ul><h3><strong>Miscellaneous items<\/strong><\/h3><ul>\n<li><strong>Umbrella<\/strong>: A compact, travel-sized umbrella will come in handy for those unpredictable winter showers.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sunglasses<\/strong>: Even in winter, the sun can be bright &ndash; bring sunglasses for eye protection.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Hair dryer<\/strong>: If your accommodation doesn&rsquo;t provide a hair dryer, we recommend bringing a travel-sized one that fits into your luggage.
